Artist Collaboration Series:

Mushroom Stumpwork Embroidery

with Ren LaDassor

18+

Wednesdays, Jan 21st & 28th

5:30 - 8:00 pm

$120

In this workshop, we will use felt, wire, and embroidery floss to make a small cluster of chicken-of-the-woods mushrooms and attach them to bark. Two skills covered in this class will be thread painting and stumpwork. These skills take a lot of finesse and I’ll provide my knowledge and tricks for making the finished product look gorgeous.

In the first class we will get our mushroom topography laid out, wires in place, and thread painting basics covered. We’ll be sewing with one or two threads to make highly detailed mushrooms.

Plan on a minimum of 3 hours of sewing homework between classes. You’ll want to have the thread painting portion done on at least one mushroom before the second class.

In the second class, we will cover our edge stitching and attach at least one mushroom to the bark. I will provide bark or you can provide your own. Bark needs to be strong and flat on the back and have some dimension so we can screw a bracket in the back.

This is an intermediate class. Wondering if you have the skill? Have you completed an embroidery project before? Do you have patience and interest in embroidery? Or have you taken a class with me before? Then you have the skill!

Please note, there is an additional $15 material fee that will be charged a couple of days prior to the start of class.

Registration deadline: 1/7/2026. Minimum of 6 students to run. Annual registration fee does not apply.
