Envision Our New Home

Since its modest beginnings, MSAC has grown to become a thriving and beloved Madison institution. Although MSAC has joyfully welcomed families to our existing space for more than 20 years, it is in immediate need of substantial renovations. Through Capital Campaign, Monroe Street Arts Center seeks to raise a total of $750,000.

Although MSAC has joyfully welcomed families to our existing space for more than 20 years, it is in immediate need of substantial renovations. Unfortunately, our lease situation makes it impractical to do these upgrades. In addition, we are “bursting at the seams” with our growing enrollment. Because of this lack of space, we are unable to expand and hire additional teachers even though there is no lack of student interest.

With the move to the new building located at 1722 Monroe Street, the approximately 4,350 square foot of space will enable MSAC to increase its number of studios and classrooms that are larger and better configured, allowing the center to substantially increase its programming. This will include additional lessons and classes such as expanded arts programming for middle and high school students, adults and senior citizens as well as new areas including writing, digital arts and dance.

Currently, MSAC is the only nonprofit organization in the City of Madison devoted solely to children’s arts and music instruction.

By serving more than 330 private and group music students, more than 500 art students and employing 25 professional art and music teachers each year, MSAC is making an important and vital impact on the arts in our community.

MSAC Program Enrollment 2018

MSAC provides a whole-life experience for children. As a teacher, I’ve watched students participate in art and music classes before they can even walk, grow up and start piano lessons, and continue until they leave for college; some kids spending the first 18 years of their lives with us!
— Reem Totonchi, Teacher – Piano and Music Together, 15 years
Anthology has been a long-time supporter of the Monroe Street Arts Center and the Clare Aubrey Roberts Scholarship Fund. As two sisters who grew up in Madison, we feel a strong debt to the ways that this community fostered our creative lives and believe strongly that the creative lives of children need to be built as by as many people as possible to reach fulfillment in adult life, to the benefit of all of us.
— Laura and Sachi Komai, Anthology
MSAC has a profound importance in our community for students’ musical and artistic education and serves as a hub for teachers who are working musicians and artists. Expansion of our scholarship program will further our deep commitment to arts education in our community.
— Matt Dahm, Teacher – Violin and Viola, 10 years
MSAC and their nurturing and experienced teachers have become a part of our family. We take Music Together classes, early childhood art classes, and individual piano lessons and our 2- and 5-year-old children delight in music and art thanks to all the encouragement they’ve received at MSAC.
