Private Music FAQs

I'm New! What is the best way to get started?

For new students, it is required that they have a "Meet & Greet" with an instructor before enrolling. After filling out the Meet & Greet form, our Administrative Coordinator will contact them to provide scheduling information and instructor recommendations.

Please allow 3-5 business days for response.

How are lessons scheduled?

Scheduling is first come, first serve. If you are attempting to sign up through our parent portal and do not see a time that works in your schedule, please contact us at info@monroestreetarts.org, and we will do our best to assist in finding a time that works for you.

Most students sign up for 30-minute lessons, but 45 or 60-minute lessons are also available if approved by your instructor. To schedule 45-minute lessons, please register for a 30-minute lesson starting at your desired time and write a comment in the notes section of the registration form that your lessons are 45 minutes. We will adjust your payment and send you an updated schedule. Or you may register by phone (608-232-1510). To schedule 60-minute lessons online, select two back-to-back 30-minute lessons and email info@monroestreetarts.org to ensure the billing is adjusted.

How do I pay?

Lessons are billed at a flat rate of $148/month from September-May (9 months) [for 30 min lessons]. Tuition is not prorated for scheduled closures. During our academic year (September-May), payment for the first month of lessons is due upon registration. Tuition for subsequent months will be billed on the 1st business day of each month to the card on file. A non-refundable annual registration fee will apply for each enrollment, and will be included with the first billing cycle.

The non-refundable annual registration fee is $30, then $10 for each subsequent household member. The annual fee is charged once per year and covers any programming the student enrolls in from September 1st through August 31st. Registrations require a credit/debit card on file to register. Your card will be automatically charged within 1-3 business days. *Flat monthly rate for 45 minute lessons is $216/month and 60 minute lessons is $284/month.

If you wish to pay for the entire academic year in advance, you will receive a 5% discount. Please email trista@monroestreetarts.org or call 608-232-1510 to arrange payment in full.

Absences

One absence per student is allowed per semester (September-December and January-May). Student absences must be made up within 30 days of the absence and may not be rescheduled. To record an absence and schedule a make-up, please view this tutorial: https://sproutvideo.com/playlists/bd9ddfb9121c30. Any student absences not made up within 30 days of the absence will be forfeited. There are no makeup periods and makeups will be scheduled within openings for each instructor's regular scheduled lesson availability. In addition, any student absences beyond the one per semester will not be made up or refunded, and families will still be billed for these missed lessons. Either a makeup option will be offered or an account credit will be issued in the event of an instructor absence. In the event of inclement weather, lessons may be conducted virtually or a credit may be issued based on the instructor’s availability. Account credits expire 2 years from date of issue if unused.

What is the cancellation policy?

Students may discontinue private music lessons prior to the end of the academic year by providing written notice no later than the 20th of the month. Cancellation will take effect at the end of that month, and tuition will not be charged for any subsequent months. Please note that no refunds will be issued for tuition already paid. All cancellation notices must be submitted via email to info@monroestreetarts.org.

What is your Inclement Weather Closure Policy?

We follow Madison Metropolitan School District's Inclement Weather Closure Policy. The district monitors weather conditions and consults with meteorologists, the City of Madison, Madison Police and transportation providers to decide whether or not to close due to snow, ice and/or extreme cold.

We will notify all families, students, and staff via email as early as possible in the event of a closure. Notices of closure will also be posted on our social media accounts.

What are the dates of the Private Music Calendar?

The 2025-2026 private music year begins on Monday, September 8, 2025, and runs through Saturday, May 30, 2026. Please view our academic calendar for holidays, breaks, or closures below.
