Lydia Zoells (she/her) is an artist and educator based in Madison, Wisconsin. Her first career was in book publishing, which she left to pursue her M.F.A. in painting from the New York Academy of Art. As a beneficiary of continuing education programs for adults, she loves sharing her skills with other artists at every age and level, to build their abilities and confidence so that they can make art they are passionate about. Artist Collaboration Series:

Paint Like Frida

with Lydia Zoells

14+

Saturday, January 31st

9:00 am - 12:00 pm

$80

Frida Kahlo was a 20th-century Mexican painter who is best known for her surreal and psychologically complex self-portraits. She explored her experiences of love, disability, political consciousness, and much more through her paintings, which incorporated elements of Mexican folk art and personal symbolism.

In this one-session class, students will learn a little bit about Kahlo's work and then create self-portraits of their own. We will discuss head structure and proportions, color mixing, style, and surrealism. Students will be asked to bring in a source photo, ideally a frontal (facing the camera) portrait image.

This course will be taught using acrylics, but students who wish to paint in oils may bring their own supplies. Great for beginner to intermediate painters.

This class is open for 14+

Those under 18 years should register with an adult.

Supplies are included.

Annual Registration fee does NOT apply.

Registration deadline: 1/22/26
